We are excited to have reinvented the Baltimore Limb Deformity Course (BLDC) to an online, virtual BLDC this year. This format will provide our registrants and industry partners an exciting, safe, and convenient web-based platform to learn, exchange ideas, and showcase important developments in the orthopedic subspecialty of limb lengthening deformity correction.

We have developed a syllabus that includes over 25 hours of pre-recorded planning and deformity correction talks/workshops and hardware application videos, in addition to 7 hours of live, interactive sessions for Q&A and case discussions. The virtual course enables surgeons to view the content on their own time and at their own pace. These on-demand videos will be available August 15 through September 30, 2020. Three live virtual sessions occurred on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, 2020 - all sessions were recorded and are uploaded for viewing.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please address them to Madeline Bacon,

Thank you, and stay well during these uncertain times.

This course has been the standard in teaching lower extremity alignment for the last 30 years. It is intended for orthopedic surgeons and podiatrists who treat long bone and foot/ankle deformities. No prior experience is required.

The course features lectures, deformity planning sessions, innovative apps, interactive participant case presentations, and an internationally renowned faculty. We will introduce basic and advanced limb reconstruction concepts including limb alignment, limb lengthening, corrective osteotomies, and internal and external fixation.

Attendees of the 2019 Course came from 36 countries and 33 U.S. states.

Course Highlights

  • Pre-recorded planning and deformity correction talks/workshops
  • Hardware application videos
  • 13 hours of interactive sessions for Q&A and case discussions
  • Sessions geared to orthopedists and foot/ankle specialists
  • Dedicated time will be spent using Bone Ninja, an iPad app teaching tool developed by Dr. Shawn Standard and Dr. John Herzenberg at the International Center for Limb Lengthening, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. This app is designed to help surgeons learn to analyze long bone deformities.*
  • Multiplier App for the prediction of values at maturity: upper and lower limb length discrepancy, bone length, lower extremity length, height (for those with and without achondroplasia), etc.
  • Interactive adult, pediatric, and foot case presentation sessions led by attendees

I'm impressed at how this particular field has grown since my residency. This is the fourth time I've taken the course since I was a third-year resident, which was around 1991. Everything is just done in such a beautiful fashion. So well calculated. I'm itching to do more of this type of work. I just wanted to commend you on a wonderful course.”
